Exceptional and climate-neutral living above the rooftops of Freiburg.
In a city where tall buildings are a rarity, this residential tower is an eye-catcher with a special touch: The new Black F Tower, whose 16 floors stretch 52 meters into the Freiburg sky at the freight station, houses, among other things, 54 high-quality serviced apartments. Behind the new brand name Black F Tower, which represents a modern interpretation of the traditional Black Forest house, lies a novel overnight accommodation concept.

From the outside, the new building draws attention with its unusual vertical green facade. Inside, the apartments' high-quality furnishings are impressive, continuing right into the interior. There, the TECEnow flush plates in extravagant black and the TECEdrainprofile shower profiles round out the exclusive furnishings. Behind the wall lies TECEprofil technology, which offers great freedom in bathroom design.
New accommodation concept with a sustainable character
With a living space of 2,300 square meters and spread across twelve of the 16 floors, the apartments combine the independence of a private residence with the character of a hotel. Managing Director Annabell Unmüssig has thus created a sought-after offering, especially among business travelers and tourists seeking local accommodation for a limited, longer period. She explains: "With our comprehensive concept, temporary living becomes a conscious and valuable experience. Guests can come in and start living."
50,000 evergreen plants form the facade
The goal of the project managers was to design and operate the Black F Tower in a conscious and sustainable manner. 4,300 square meters – approximately two-thirds of the total facade area of this extraordinary residential tower – were therefore covered with wall-mounted greenery. 50,000 evergreen plants such as lavender, rosemary, wood fern, and sage ensure that the facade is one of the largest vertical vegetation areas in Germany. With a CO2 binding capacity of up to 25 tons per year, it clearly contributes to the concept of sustainability. The plants are planted in approximately 1,500 coated aluminum cassettes suspended from support rails, forming a seamless greening system in conjunction with all modular elements. Irrigation and fertilization are fully automated. The extensive green roof and four beehives on the 16th-floor terrace also contribute to the sustainability concept. A real tree in the foyer also brings nature indoors. Through diverse efforts, the Black F Tower is now 100% climate-neutral, certified by Climate Partner, and invites guests to live in a climate-neutral way. The advantages of a green facade are obvious: For example, it protects the building structure from wind and extreme temperature fluctuations, absorbs noise, filters fine dust, and improves the microclimate.

TECE products fit into a unique concept
The sustainable concept also includes the decision of those responsible to ensure the shortest possible delivery routes within Germany when selecting products – something TECE, with its headquarters in Emsdetten, North Rhine-Westphalia, complies with. TECEprofil is behind the wall. The drywall system, consisting of a supporting structure and matching sanitary modules, was specially developed for pre-wall installation. It allows for great design freedom in the planning and design of bathrooms and allows for individually tailored installations in the smallest of spaces. The particularly efficient water use – six or optionally 4.5 liter flush volume – also contributes significantly to the sustainability concept of the new building.
The high quality and exceptional appearance of the TECEnow actuator plates and the TECEdrainprofile shower profiles in exclusive black extend the exclusive character of the furnishings down to the details of the bathrooms. Visually, both elements provide a striking contrast in the overall brightly designed bathrooms. Thanks to its flat design, the TECEnow blends harmoniously into the design, as does the TECEdrainprofile shower profile. The internal gradient of the TECEdrainprofile gutter profile also optimises water drainage and thus also the self-cleaning effect.
