Sommerro Oslo – Where history comes to life
Vellkommen til Sommerro Hotel Oslo: an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the vibrant Frogner district. Where electricity for the city of Oslo was once managed, guests now reside in stylish Art Deco surroundings. Under the direction of the Norwegian architecture firm LPO, and in close collaboration with the interior design studio GrecoDeco London, the building underwent a careful restoration and now shines with contemporary brilliance. Since its reopening in September 2022, Sommerro has welcomed guests and visitors from all over the world, inviting them on an unforgettable journey back in time.
Sommerro is more than just a place to stay – it is a true experience. With seven restaurants and bars, numerous meeting and event spaces, and an expansive 8,000-square-metre wellness area, including the intricately restored Vestkantbadet, the hotel offers a wealth of opportunities for both locals and travellers alike. Moreover, Sommerro sees itself as a cultural hub for Oslo: in addition to immersive programs in its event spaces, concerts, pop-ups and performances are regularly held in the hotel’s own theatre.
Not only beautiful, but also rich in history.
Built in the first half of the 20th century, the building combines neoclassical aesthetics with numerous Art Deco elements. The curated art collection by renowned museum expert Sune Nordgren lends the hotel’s atmosphere a distinctive touch. The collection complements works by Per Krohg displayed throughout the building – including an imposing fresco in the main hall and the striking mosaic in the poolside sauna area – giving the hotel its unmistakable character.
A sleep paradise with a touch of nostalgia
Inspired by the 1930s, the interior design of the hotel’s 231 rooms and suites reflects a rich palette of colours, opulent custom-made furniture, and oak parquet flooring — all creating a nostalgic atmosphere without compromising on comfort or modern luxury.
The Art Deco style continues seamlessly into the bathrooms. For this, the Italian manufacturer Devon & Devon developed a custom version of its iconic Etoile washbasin, featuring two glass shelves and a matching black ceramic top. This unique setting provides the perfect stage for TECE’s high-end products, which blend effortlessly into the hotel’s aesthetic and design concept. In addition to a wide selection of carefully chosen TECE flush plates installed throughout Sommerro, the TECEloop flush plate in black glass stands out as a refined highlight in the orange-tiled bathrooms, harmonising perfectly with the bespoke Etoile washbasin. Remarkably robust and easy to maintain, it meets the demanding requirements of diverse user groups with ease.

The TECEnow flush plate in white also creates striking colour contrasts within the bathrooms. In addition to its appearance, the TECE product also impresses with its pleasant feel: its solid, mechanical feel with rubber-damped buttons contributes to the overall premium impression. Both models – TECEloop and TECEnow – feature TECE’s reliable dual-flush technology, offering a choice between a small flush volume for water-saving use and a larger flush volume when needed.
The installed TECEprofil WC modules are optimally adapted to the technical requirements specific to the region. In Scandinavian countries, timber construction is common — which in turn demands a high level of protection against moisture damage, for example caused by frost. With conventional WC modules, sensitive wooden structures must therefore be sealed both in front of and behind the cistern, a complex and labour-intensive task. TECE provides a more efficient solution: thanks to the Safetybag — a waterproof, highly durable PVC barrier — only a single sealing layer in front of the wall is required, eliminating the need to install a second waterproof barrier behind the module. In the event of a leak, water is safely collected inside the Safetybag, channelled forward into the bathroom, and drained away via the mandatory floor drain. This saves both time and money during installation — while providing effective protection against costly water damage.
With solutions like these, nothing stands in the way of a truly exceptional hotel stay.
