The new Hotel niu Tab conveys elegance down to the last detail

Anyone looking for Japanese culture and lifestyle in Germany will quickly find it in Düsseldorf. A vibrant Japanese community has established itself here. In this environment, the niu Tab was completed in 2021 and handed over turnkey by the London-based developer, Citygrove Securities PLC.

The building of the Novum Hospitality Hotel Group, which is centrally located in the Rhine metropolis, was developed by SKAI, Siemer Kramer Architekten Ingenieure Partnerschaft mbB from Hamburg, and relies on an individual design concept for the interior by Bachhuber Contract, the international specialist for hotel furnishings.

The name alone says it all, because Tab stands for Tokyo, Art and Beer. The lobby welcomes visitors with a mix of industrial design, street art paintings and Asian furnishing elements with rustic furniture in a used look. SKAI Architects have given the new hotel building an unagitated aesthetic expression.

The functional building blends into the urban landscape with 438 double rooms and 13 floors. The U-shaped complex consists of three connected building sections. The high-rise section has twelve upper floors and is flanked by two low-rise buildings, each with seven and six upper floors respectively. On entering the first floor, one is greeted by large-format glass surfaces that provide a view of the adjacent green area. Next to the lobby, there is a restaurant including a kitchen and a work or communication area.

"In designing the hotel complex, we placed great emphasis on a sober and calm architecture that integrates harmoniously into the urban space," says SKAI Architekten, explaining the concept behind the architecture of the niu Tab in Düsseldorf.

Self-confident facade conveys lightness

The façade structure was softened by vertical window bands, for which groups of two, three or four elements were combined, breaking the uniform arrangement of window openings. The result takes away the monumentality of the building and gives it a confident self-assurance. Wide surfaces tilted inward give depth to the facade. Polished Portuguese limestone gives the cladding a certain lightness.

Sophisticated technology in the background

The conscious selection of high-quality materials is also reflected in the interior design. Important aspects in the planning and selection of the technology used in the hotel and catering sector are durability, flexibility and sustainability. Not only the 438 double rooms, which range in size from 19 m2 to 27 m2, but also the bathrooms were configured according to this principle. The walls behind the simply elegant TECEnow actuator plates, which fit in with the young urban design concept, conceal the pre-wall system from the same manufacturer.

It integrates all sanitary modules and enables safe planning and implementation of different room layouts, but also simple compliance with regulations such as drinking water hygiene requirements.

In the niu TAB, two bathrooms are connected via looped lines to a WC module with integrated drinking water hygiene flushing. This automates the regular exchange of water in the pipe network as required, thus preventing stagnation and contamination. All flushing processes are automatically recorded and can be documented and controlled via Bluetooth on a tablet or smartphone.

For the operator of the niu TAB, this automated technology makes it considerably easier to operate the drinking water system as intended, as otherwise all pipes that are not used for a longer period of time would have to be flushed manually by draining water.
