EDGE East Side Tower – A new chapter for Berlin
Berlin – a city of contrasts and possibilities, characterised by cultural diversity and constant change. Between historic landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate and the remains of the Berlin Wall, the German capital is constantly reinventing itself. Since the beginning of 2025, another architectural highlight has been shaping the Berlin skyline: the EDGE East Side Tower. At 142 metres, it not only marks the highest point in Berlin's office property market, but also the aspirations of a new generation of urban architecture.
One tower, many perspectives
The visionary design comes from the internationally renowned architectural office Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and combines urban elegance with a profound commitment to sustainability. With 36 floors and over 65,000 m² of flexible office space, the EDGE East Side Tower offers optimal conditions for modern working models. As the main tenant, Amazon occupies a large part of the office space, emphasizing the appeal of the EDGE East Side Tower as a future-oriented business location.

The EDGE East Side Tower is more than just a functional office building. It is a space for encounters, exchange and new ideas. Catering facilities on the ground floor and top floor invite both employees and external visitors to linger, network or simply enjoy themselves.
Sanitary facilities meet the highest standards
Nothing was left to chance when it came to the sanitary facilities at EDGE East Side Tower. In a building that is consistently designed for sustainability and user comfort, the technical equipment must meet the highest standards. Among other things, toilet modules with an integrated hygiene flush for hot and cold water connections were used.
This intelligent technology ensures regular water exchange through automatic, individually adjustable flushing intervals – effective protection against stagnation and microbiological contamination, especially during longer periods of non-use. This ensures that drinking water hygiene is maintained at all times. The pre-assembled components were installed with minimal effort – a clear advantage in the realisation of complex large-scale projects such as this one.
Matching the overall architectural concept TECElux Mini flush plates were chosen. The flush plates combine modern design with intuitive operation, thus contributing to the aesthetic and functional enhancement of the sanitary areas. The system is complemented by the slim TECEfilo urinal flush plate with sensor function. With the EDGE East Side Tower, Berlin is sending a strong signal for sustainable construction and new ways of working.
Smartness in the EDGE East Side Tower
1. Building management system & sensor technology
The tower is equipped with a sophisticated building control system that centralises the regulation of heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting. Each floor has its own tablets to control the various systems – either directly in the rental area or centrally via the reception desk. The building control system is connected to an intelligent sensor technology that provides real-time data on room temperature, air quality and energy consumption.
2. Self-learning systems
Externally, the Tower is described as a ‘self-learning office building’ that regulates its own performance via intelligent sensors and optimises it in real time. This makes it a flagship project for smart high-rise architecture.
3. Sustainability & certifications
The building is aiming for DGNB platinum certification and has already achieved WELL v2 Core gold certification. These standards set high benchmarks for eco- and user-friendliness as well as energy efficiency. The commitment to innovation can also be seen in a pilot project that uses CO₂-reduced concrete during the construction process.
