Huchler barn: living experience at historic city wall

Medieval city walls are tourist magnets in many places – only they tend not to be associated with the topic of housing. All the more unusual is the "Huchler Barn" renovation project implemented by COAST Architekten in Waiblingen: A barn in danger of collapsing, which outer walls include the historic town wall, was transformed into a unique residential and office building. In addition to monumental and fire protection, modern building services, architecture and design had to be combined with the existing building.

Nach Stabilisierung konnten große Teile der originalen Balken und der weiteren Bausubstanz der Huchler Scheune bewahrt werden.

The vision: to create a spacious living experience in the 300-year-old, unused building and at the same time restore the historical spatial structure all around. The historic city wall forms the northern outer wall, which can also be experienced in its original state across the floors inside the building.

After stabilization, large parts of the original beams and other building fabric could be preserved. Combined with many modern, high-quality design elements and generous windows, a unique, personal living style in an open floor plan was created - including a bathroom with a clear view to the sky. With its clear look and scratch-resistant surface, the TECEnow toilet flush plate blends in perfectly with the new living environment.
